A town that is proud of itself, and says so

White Oak's motto is Pride, Tradition, and the school district is the thing the town is built around — Roughneck Day, the ball games, the whole calendar. A place with that much local identity puts it on the wall, and a good deal of the sign work that comes from here is exactly that: family names, established dates, house numbers, team and school pieces for a games room or a child's bedroom.

Those are worth making properly in timber. A printed sign fades and curls in three summers. A painted board with real depth to the lettering is still there when the child it was made for has left home.

Made in a furniture shop

These are built as timber pieces — real frames, real boards, joints cut rather than stapled, and a finish put on the way a table gets finished. That is why they survive on a porch through an East Texas summer and why they sit properly beside good furniture indoors instead of looking like gift shop stock.

House numbers and porch pieces

In a town of newer houses, this is the cheapest thing that makes a frontage look like somebody's rather than like a builder's. A house number cut and painted to suit the porch, a family name over the door, a seasonal piece for the entry. Send a photograph of the frontage — the brick color and the porch shadow decide what will actually read from the street, which is not something to guess at.

Coat racks and hooks

The most-asked-for thing in the shop after signs themselves, and in a family house it is close to essential. A stained board with cast hooks, cut to the length of wall you actually have, turns a back door into somewhere coats and bags go instead of the floor. They take lettering too, which makes them a sign and a coat rack at once.

Business signage

White Oak's businesses sit mostly along Highway 80, which means signage gets read at driving speed rather than walking speed. That changes the job — bigger lettering, higher contrast, and fewer words than anybody wants to use. Tell us where it is going and how it will be seen, and it gets built for that.

Ordering

Send the wording, the rough size and any colors it has to sit alongside, plus a photo of where it is going. You get a price before anything is cut. One sign for one room is a perfectly normal order, and White Oak is about twenty minutes from the shop.

Questions we get from White Oak

Can you make a school or team piece?

Yes — for a games room, a bedroom or a porch. Your wording and colors.

Can you make a house number for a newer house?

Yes, and it is the cheapest thing that makes a frontage look like somebody's. Send a photo of the porch.

Do you make signs for businesses on Highway 80?

Yes, and built to be read at driving speed — bigger lettering, higher contrast, fewer words.

Can you match a color?

Usually. Bring a paint chip, a photograph, or the thing it has to sit beside.
