Custom Dining Tables Built to Your Room

A dining table sized to your room and the number of people you feed, built from solid wood in our Kilgore shop and finished to stand up to every meal.

The table everyone gathers around

A custom dining table is built for one room and one family. It can be a few inches narrower to fit a tight dining room, longer to seat everyone at Thanksgiving, or taller for a counter-height kitchen. Store tables come in a handful of sizes; yours does not have to.

We build farmhouse tables with plank tops and pedestal tables in solid wood, and we can work from a photo of a trestle, oval or round design you like. Tops can be stained to match floors or cabinets, finished natural, or paired with a painted base.

Every table is built in our Kilgore shop and delivered across East Texas. A long table can be made to come apart so it fits through the doorways of an older house.

Decisions that shape your table

Size and shape

About 24 inches of edge per diner. Rectangles seat the most; rounds and ovals feel more sociable and pass better in tight rooms.

Base

Four legs with aprons, a trestle, or a pedestal. Pedestals and trestles free up knee room at the ends.

Wood

Pine for a farmhouse look and a lower price, or a harder wood such as oak that resists dents.

Finish

A hard topcoat for a family table that gets wiped every night, or a softer oil finish that is easy to touch up.

Height

Standard dining height is around 28 to 30 inches; counter-height tables run taller.

Leaves

Built-in or separate leaves for holidays, planned into the base from the start.

Built to stay flat for decades

A solid wood top moves with the seasons. The USDA Forest Products Laboratory notes that wood shrinks and swells across its width far more than along its length, and in East Texas the swing between humid summers and drier, heated winters keeps that movement going all year.

A table that ignores this cracks or pulls apart. One that is built for it lasts. The top is fastened to the base with hardware or wooden buttons that let it slide as it moves, a method Fine Woodworking describes in detail, and a plank top is finished on both faces so it takes on and loses moisture evenly. Breadboard ends, where used, are pinned so the top can still move beneath them.

These are details you will never see, and they are the difference between a table you replace and one your grandchildren eat at.

Common questions

How big should a custom dining table be?

Start with about 24 inches of table edge for each person and leave about 36 inches between the table and the walls. Our guide what size dining table seats 8 works through the numbers for six, eight and ten.

What wood is best for a dining table?

Harder woods such as oak resist dents better; pine costs less and takes a stain well but marks more easily, which some families like for a farmhouse look. Tell us the look you want and we will talk through which woods suit it and your budget.

Can you build a table with leaves?

Leaves let a table seat more people at holidays and stay smaller the rest of the year. They add cost and need the base designed around them, so tell us early and we will say what your design allows.

Can you make chairs or a bench to go with the table?

A matching bench is something we build alongside a table. For chairs, tell us what you have in mind and we will tell you honestly whether building them or buying them to match makes more sense.

How long does a custom dining table take?

It depends on the design and what is already in the shop. You get a realistic time with the quote, and photos as the table comes along if you would like them.

Send a photo and we will tell you what it needs.

A phone picture is plenty. You will hear what the piece needs, what it will cost and roughly how long it will take before anything starts.
